He is also the owner of several top companies in Zambia and Africa such as Finance Bank, Mahtani Group and Finsbury Investments. As such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani is considered as among the top businessmen in Zambia. Recently, an interview excerpt of Dr. Rajan Mahtani was published at the ‘Mast Newspaper’ of Zambia. In this interview, Dr. Rajan Mahtani praised heaps of the latest announcement made by the Zambian President. President Hakainde Hichilema, on the occasion of the Africa Day, announced that he is planning to abolish the cruel, inhumane and degrading practice of death penalty. This decision from the Zambian President has received widespread support from Zambia and Africa. One of the biggest supporters has been Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, who is also the founder and current chairman of the Prison Fellowship Zambia. It is a noted Christian Outreach program that focusses on ensuring that the gospel and teachings from the Almighty Jesus reach the prisoners and ex-prisoners of Zambia along with their families. Also, the program focusses on ensuring that the prisoners across Zambia are not devoid of basic human dignity and fundamental human rights.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani, while supporting this decision from the Zambian President, stated that the punishment of death penalty does not solve the issues of crimes and criminal activities across the nation. There are hundreds of prisoners across Zambia under death penalty and for them, each day is like their last day as they are not aware of their final day. Furthermore, the condition of the prisoners across Zambia is extremely difficult and dangerous with prisoners being subjected to several challenges. These conditions make it difficult for prisoners to transform themselves or dedicate their lives to God. Several initiatives have been taken in the past wherein prisoners are released after good work, transformation and changed life. However, none of these initiatives are as powerful and meaningful as the present announcement made by President Hichilema.
